Entrevista con Eligio Rubalcava, diseñador gráfico y gestor cultural.
¿Cómo describirías el estilo de tus obras?
Soy creativo y me apego más a lo que es diseño gráfico, influido 100% por el modernismo, en Francia hay una localidad que se especializa en cerámica y atrajo a la gran mayoría de los artistas que producían en Francia en la primera mitad del siglo pasado, y ahí fue Roger Capron que era un ilustrador y artista gráfico, Picasso y varios contemporáneos; todos ellos son en los que me inspiro, es lo que a mí más me gusta y procuro llevar mi trabajo hacia ello.
¿Hace cuánto te dedicas a esto y de dónde te surgió el gusto por empezar a hacerlo?
Yo estudié diseño gráfico y en la carrera llevábamos en el plan de estudios un acercamiento a lo que es la gráfica y ahí hicimos por primera vez un linóleo, ahí fue cuando me gustó la gráfica, dije que luego lo iba a retomar y empecé a trabajar en agencias de publicidad, relaciones públicas y luego como gestor cultural y hacía de vez en cuando, cuando tenía tiempos de descanso entre un proyecto y otro, retomaba en dibujo y la gráfica, pero fue hasta la pandemia que ya en casa me tuve que enfrentar a aquel espacio y a mi tiempo.
¿Cómo te inspiras al momento de crear?
Hay siempre una idea, enamorarme de un tema, que me atraiga o me enamore, por ejemplo ahorita estoy haciendo inspirado en la cerámica de Chupícuaro y en todo este movimiento francés de mediados del siglo pasado, quiero hacer una exposición. Quizá como ya fui gestor cultural, también ya me sé la receta, si voy a trabajar lo voy a hacer en algo que me guste, dedicarle tiempo y experimentar y sobre eso ir sacando piezas para tener al final una exposición, que tenga un sentido.
¿Qué dificultades te has topado a lo largo de la trayectoria?
La dificultad era que no me lo tomaba en serio y no me decidía, ahora ya que tengo ese compromiso conmigo mismo, es un poco más fácil, porque te obliga a ser más ordenado con tus tiempos y planeador, no andar divagando e ir por algo más seguro.
¿Qué te gustaría hacer en el futuro?
Trabajar con otras personas en otras disciplinas como cerámica o herrería, colaborar, me gustaría hacer algo de mobiliario de jardín, combinarlo con la gráfica.
¿Qué consejo le darías a nuevos artistas?
Ser constantes, es lo principal, tener u trabajo constante o tener proyectos que solitos te van a ir abriendo la puerta, si tú trabajas en una serie o un proyecto, puedes ir a solicitar un espacio público o privado, como galería, museo, sala de arte, jardín, etc., el espacio que tú creas y te convenga de acuerdo con tu formato y tus gustos, eso te va a dar más experiencia en como gestionar tu trabajo y las oportunidades y las relaciones.

Interview with Eligio Rubalcava, graphic designer and cultural manager.
How would you describe the style of your work?
I am creative and I am more attached to what is graphic design, influenced 100% by modernism, in France there is a town that specializes in ceramics and attracted the vast majority of artists who produced in France in the first half of the last century, and there was Roger Capron who was an illustrator and graphic artist, Picasso and several contemporaries; all of them are what I am inspired by, it is what I like the most and I try to take my work towards it.
How long have you been doing this and where did you get the taste to start doing it?
I studied graphic design and during my studies we had an approach to graphics in the curriculum and that's where we did a linoleum for the first time, that's when I liked graphics, I said that later I would take it up again and I started working in advertising agencies, public relations and then as a cultural manager and from time to time, when I had time off between one project and another, I would take up drawing and graphics again, but it was until the pandemic that I had to face that space and my time at home.
How do you get inspired when you create?
There is always an idea, to fall in love with a theme, that attracts me or makes me fall in love, for example, right now I am making an exhibition inspired by the ceramics of Chupícuaro and all this French movement of the middle of the last century. Maybe since I've already been a cultural manager, I already know the recipe, if I'm going to work, I'm going to work on something I like, dedicate time to it and experiment and on that I'm going to make pieces to have an exhibition at the end that has a meaning.
What difficulties have you encountered along the way?
The difficulty was that I didn't take it seriously and I didn't make up my mind. Now that I have this commitment to myself, it's a little easier, because it forces you to be more organized with your time and planning, not to wander around and go for something more certain.
What would you like to do in the future?
Work with other people in other disciplines like ceramics or blacksmithing, collaborate, I'd like to do some garden furniture, combine it with graphics.
What advice would you give to new artists?
If you work on a series or a project, you can apply for a public or private space, such as a gallery, museum, art room, garden, etc., the space that you create and that suits you according to your format and your tastes, that will give you more experience in how to manage your work and the opportunities and relationships.
