Apertura de la Presa de la Olla

Ya hablamos de la Reina de la ciudad y su papel, ya hablamos del porqué de las Fiestas de San Juan y Presa de la Olla, solamente nos queda por hablar de otro tan esperado evento de la ciudad, la apertura de La Presa de la Olla.
Guanajuato, siempre lleno de festividades y celebraciones, tradiciones y cultura, y esta evento no es a excepción.
Pero…
¿Por qué se festeja la Apertura de la Presa?
Como ya habíamos platicado antes sobre la historia de las Fiestas de San Juan y Presa de la Olla, la Presa fue terminada en 1749, esto con el propósito de sobrellevar las sequías. Y hasta la actualidad se sigue llevando acabo para limpiar el cauce y almacenar nueva agua de lluvias.
La población se juntaba al rededor de las compuertas para presenciar el espectáculo, poco a poco se fue convirtiendo en un festival, lleno juegos mecánicos, puestos de comida y muchas familias.

La apertura es marcada oficialmente por el Gobernador al lanzar una pañoleta blanca a la 1:00 pm el primer Lunes de Julio.
El día continúa con puestos que se acomodan a lo largo de la subida a la Presa, gente comprando, saboreando comida y disfrutando en familia y amigos de todas las edades.
¡Tal es su importancia que únicamente se trabaja medio día!, así que ya sabes, seas de Guanajuato o no, es una experiencia que tienes que vivir.

In an earlier post we covered the Queen of the city, her role, and the reason for the Festivals de San Juan and Presa de la Olla, now we only have left to talk about another long-awaited event of the city, the opening of La Presa de la Olla.
Guanajuato, always full of festivities and celebrations, traditions and culture, and this event is no exception.
But...
Why do we celebrate the Opening of La Presa?
The Presa de la Olla dam was finished in 1749, with the purpose of preventing droughts in the city of Guanajuato. To this day it is still being used to clean the riverbed and store rainwater.
The population gathered around the gates to witness the spectacle, little by little it became a festival, full of mechanical games, food stands and many families.
The opening is officially marked by the Governor throwing a white bandanna at 1:00 pm on the first Monday of July.

The day continues with stalls set up all along the ascent to the Presa, people shopping, savoring food, and enjoying themselves with family and friends of all ages.
The festival is of such importance to the city that people only work for half a day! Whether or not you are from Guanajuato, it is a can’t miss experience.
