Andrea I, Reina de las Fiestas de San Juan y Presa de la Olla

Una introducción a las Fiestas de San Juan y una entrevista con Andrea I para conocer más el trabajo de la Reina de la Ciudad. (English below)

En este año que se celebra el 280 aniversario de la Construcción de la Presa de la Olla,  no podemos olvidar uno de los eventos más emblemáticos de la Ciudad de Guanajuato, La Coronación de la Reina de las Fiestas de San Juan y Presa de la Olla.

¿Sabes de dónde proviene esta fiesta tan importante?

Hay que recordar a San Juan Bautista, el patrono al que se le encomendaba que la lluvia llegara a nuestra Ciudad que siempre ha sido testigo de sequías; al mismo tiempo la apertura de las compuertas de la presa, que en 1747 se logra llenar por primera vez debido a  las lluvias, para así poder limpiar el antiguo río.

A todo esto se añade la presencia de una Reina que represente este evento tan importante para la gente de Guanajuato durante generaciones.

La elección de la Reina de la Ciudad también tiene su propia historia, ya que anteriormente los diferentes gremios de la ciudad, como lo son, los mineros, los estudiantes, los comerciantes, etc. escogían a sus candidatas y trabajan mucho para conseguir la mayoría de votos y que la representante del gremio fuese coronada.

Conforme pasaba el tiempo se fue formando un comité organizador de las Fiestas de San Juan, quienes hasta la fecha eligen a una joven guanajuatense que tenga la pasión y el gusto por el trabajo, ya que su labor como Reina de la ciudad no dura solamente un día para la apertura de la presa , es un trabajo de un año entero en el que se dedica a ayudar a diferentes causas sociales que beneficien a la ciudadanía, a las comunidades y gente de Guanajuato.

Este año 2021, la Reina de la Ciudad es Andrea Guardado, una joven Guanajuatense que el año pasado, debido a la pandemia,  por primera vez en la historia de Guanajuato, fue coronada en Septiembre, y a pesar del corto tiempo, realizó un arduo trabajo, por lo que el comité de las fiestas la invitó nuevamente a ser Reina para continuar todos los proyectos que tiene planeados en beneficio de los guanajuatenses, en el periodo 2021-2022.

Con las medidas de salud pertinentes, se llevó a cabo la ceremonia , en la que año con año, podemos apreciar tradiciones, como la coronación por parte de las autoridades, la corona de plata, que anteriormente era elaborada por los mineros para cada Reina entrante, los cascos de los mineros iluminándola  en  manera de saludo y aprobación, el acompañamiento de otras reinas de diferentes clubes de servicio social, entre otras cosas.

Colectiva de la Presa tuvo el gusto de poder entrevistar a Andrea y conocer más sobre la labor como Reina de la Ciudad.

¿Qué representa para ti el haber sido elegida como Reina de las fiestas de San Juan y Presa de la Olla?

Representa una gran responsabilidad porque el realizar actividades en beneficio de los demás, en este tiempo de pandemia es difícil, sin embargo es un gran honor que me hayan tomado en cuenta para continuar con esta designación representando a mi ciudad. 

¿Cuál es la labor de una Reina de la Ciudad?

Trabajar en pro de causas sociales y de personas que requieran apoyo, trabajar por los niños, niñas, adolescentes, jóvenes y adultos mayores. Apoyar las actividades que requieran las autoridades , asociaciones, organizaciones y quien lo requiera.

Como Guanajuatense, y vecina del barrio de La Presa, ¿qué rincones recomendarías visitar en esta área?

Primero la Presa de la Olla, la Casa de la Presa donde puedes pasar una tarde agradable con amigos en los diferentes locales que se encuentran en ella, café El Gregario, Amatxi si quieren cenar delicioso, La Burguesa de la Presa si son fan de las hamburguesas, Café Tal, Al Mashrek si te gusta la comida libanesa y Macanela cocina colectiva.

¿Qué es lo que te inspira a trabajar como Reina de la Ciudad?

Saber qué puedo ayudar a otras personas y recibir sonrisas sinceras como agradecimiento, además me hace feliz que a donde vaya, las personas se van a quedar con un pedazo de mi y ellas siempre se quedarán en mi corazón.

¿Nos puedes contar de algunos proyectos que tengas a futuro?

En primer lugar seguir apoyando las causas de DIF Municipal Guanajuato, un taller virtual de educación sexual para jóvenes, el festejo del adulto mayor, participar en la colecta del banco de alimentos, llevar los reyes magos a las comunidades, realizar otra vez la convocatoria de “Reina por un día”, seguir en apoyo del Albergue del Hospital General, seguir con el programa de los testamentos para Adultos mayores a través de los centros gerontológicos, ayudar con una actividad de recaudación de fondos para Mujeres Pro-Guanajuato, invitar y participar con Asociaciones civiles ya establecidas en programas de beneficio social, entre otros.

¿Qué puede hacer la ciudadanía para apoyarte?

Considerando que toda ayuda es buena, sumarse a las campañas de recaudación ya que es en beneficio de todos, difundir todas las actividades para que lleguen a más ciudadanos y cada vez más personas puedan poner su granito de arena.

¿Algún deseo que tengas para este periodo de trabajo?

Espero que la pandemia no limite las actividades, ya que es muy importante trabajar. También espero el apoyo de toda la ciudadanía porque entre más suma de esfuerzos sean aportados, más beneficios haremos llegar a la sociedad.

An introduction to the Fiestas de San Juan and an interview with Andrea I to learn more about the work of the Queen of the City

In this year that celebrates the 280th anniversary of the Construction of the Presa de la Olla, we cannot forget one of the most emblematic events of the City of Guanajuato, The Coronation of the Queen of the San Juan and Presa de la Olla Festivities .

Do you know where this important festival comes from?

The festival honors Saint John the Baptist, the patron who was entrusted with bringing the rain to our City, which has always witnessed droughts; at the same time the opening of the gates of the dam, which in 1747 was able to fill for the first time due to the rains, in order to clean the old river.

To all this is added the presence of a Queen who represents this important event for the people of Guanajuato for generations.

The election of the Queen of the City also has its own history, since previously the different guilds of the city, such as miners, students, merchants, etc, chose their candidates and campaigned for votes for their representative to be crowned.

As time went by, an organizing committee for the San Juan Festivities was formed, who to date choose a young Guanajuato resident who has the passion and taste for work, since her work as Queen of the city does not only last a day for the opening of the dam, it is a work of a whole year in which it is dedicated to helping different social causes that benefit the citizens, communities and people of Guanajuato.

This year 2021, the Queen of the City is Andrea Guardado, a young Guanajuato citizen who last year, due to the pandemic, for the first time in the history of Guanajuato, was crowned in September, and despite the short time, did hard work. Therefore, the festival committee invited her again to be Queen to continue all the projects that she has planned for the benefit of Guanajuato, in the period 2021-2022.

With the pertinent health measures, the ceremony was carried out. Especially in difficult time, we can appreciate traditions, such as the coronation by the authorities, the silver crown, which was previously made by the miners for each incoming Queen , the helmets of the miners illuminating it in a way of greeting and approval, and the accompaniment of other queens from different social service clubs, among other things.

Colectiva de la Presa had the pleasure of being able to interview Andrea and learn more about her work as Queen of the City.

It represents a great responsibility because carrying out activities for the benefit of others, in this time of pandemic is difficult, however it is a great honor that they have taken me into account to continue with this designation representing my city.

What is the job of a Queen of the City?

Work for social causes and people who require support, work for children, adolescents, youth and older adults. Support the activities required by the authorities, associations, organizations and whoever requires it.

As a Guanajuatense, and a resident of the La Presa neighborhood, what places would you recommend visiting in this area?

First the Presa de la Olla, the Casa de la Presa where you can spend a pleasant afternoon with friends in the different places that are in it, Cafe El Gregario, Amatxi if you want to dine delicious, La Burguesa de la Presa if you are a fan of the Burgers, Café Tal, Al Mashrek if you like Lebanese food and Macanela collective kitchen.

What inspires you to work as Queen of the City?

Knowing that I can help other people and receiving sincere smiles as thanks, also makes me happy that wherever I go, people are going to keep a piece of me and they will always stay in my heart.

Can you tell us about some projects you have in the future?

In the first place, continue supporting the causes of DIF Municipal Guanajuato, a virtual workshop on sexual education for young people, the celebration of the elderly, participate in the food bank collection, bring the Three Kings to the communities, make the call for "Queen for a day", continue in support of the General Hospital Shelter, continue with the program of wills for the elderly through gerontological centers, help with a fundraising activity for Mujeres Pro-Guanajuato, invite and participate with civil associations already established in social benefit programs, among others.

What can citizens do to support you?

Considering that all help is good, join the collecting campaigns since it is for the benefit of all, disseminate all the activities so that they reach more citizens and more and more people can do their bit.

Do you have any wishes for this work period?

I hope that the pandemic does not limit activities, since it is very important to work. I also hope the support of all citizens because the more efforts are made, the more benefits we will bring to society.
