Presa 97 es una fuerza femenina, que se mueve y evoluciona gracias cuatro mujeres que trabajan arduo cada día para ofrecerte un espacio acogedor, diverso, solidario y lleno de cariño. Nuestro principal deseo es que las experiencias de nuestra vida se plasmen en los rincones de este centro cultural y que, en los momentos que compartamos contigo, sepas que recibes nuestra esencia y un toque de nuestra personalidad.
En este blog te contamos un poco de nosotras y de los retos que hemos enfrentado en este proyecto. Sin duda, ha habido altas y bajas, pero todos los días regresamos a casa con la satisfacción de que lo damos todo. Esperamos que puedas verlo. ¡Pasa a conocernos!
Laura Glish-Directora
La mejor palabra para describir a Laura es entrega. La pasión que la mueve es retribuir a la sociedad las cosas bonitas que le ha dado. Puedes ver su esencia y labor en las diversas actividades que ofrecemos. Ella siempre está atenta a los detalles; entonces nada de esto podría funcionar sin su dedicación, sin sus desvelos y sin el cariño que tiene por la casa.
Conocer a Laura es saber que nadie lee libros tan rápido como ella, que siempre está lista para hacerte sentir bienvenidx y que, aunque no le gusten las fotos, está detrás de cámara dando apoyo y palabras de aliento para lo que necesites. En definitiva, Presa 97 no podría estar en mejores manos que las suyas.
Valentina Osorio-Coordinadora
Es verdad que Presa 97 es una casa hermosa, pero sus paredes se llenan de vida gracias al talento de Valentina. Ella es la encargada de la curaduría de Galería Vitral, es decir, es quien encuentra y se comunica con artistas locales o emergentes para que sus obras sean parte del espacio de la casa. La belleza artística que presentamos ha pasado primero por los ojos de Valentina; es por eso que vemos colores radiantes, motivos relevantes e historias que hacen sentido.
Detrás de Galería Vitral hay una propuesta sumamente importante liderada por Valentina: el Fondo Vitral, un fondo que se nutre de la venta de arte en la galería, de eventos de recaudación y de donaciones para otorgar becas a niñxs de Paseo de la Presa, con las cuales reciben clases de arte sin costo.
A primera vista, puede parecer que los párrafos anteriores definen a Valentina, en especial si consideramos que hizo sus prácticas profesionales en el Palacio de Bellas Artes en la Ciudad de México. Pero ella es mucho más que eso; por ejemplo, es esencial saber que su helado favorito es el de choco menta, que no tiene un color preferido (aunque de momento, gana el borgoña) y que tiene un gato negro que se llama Salem.
A Valentina, de nacionalidad mexicana y chilena, le encanta que le regalen flores, nunca se ha roto un hueso y, pese a no creer en la astrología, buscó su carta natal en Google mientras compartía datos curiosos sobre ella. Uno de sus pasatiempos predilectos es pintar en acuarela obras que sólo le gusta compartir consigo misma. Lo más interesante sobre su perspectiva artística es que cree que parece un conejo. El resto de nosotras pensamos que quizá tenga razón, pero uno muy tierno.
Ale Gutiérrez-Gerente
La presencia de Ale puede sentirse en todos los eventos que compartimos contigo. Sin duda alguna, su imaginación es la que nos ha permitido volver realidad los sueños de nuestrxs invitadxs, y en parte, también los nuestros. Cada momento, cada espacio y cada anhelo de Presa 97 tienen el toque de Ale, entonces se nos ha hecho costumbre consultar con ella en caso de duda y cuando necesitamos inspiración. Verla en un ir y venir constante nos motiva a siempre dar la mejor versión de nosotras. Esperamos que sepa que su labor ardua no pasa desapercibida nunca y que valoramos toda su entrega.
Lo que hace especial el trabajo de Ale es su dedicación y su entereza. Además, sin importar lo ocupada que esté, no duda en dedicar un momento para escucharte con atención. Su especialidad son las fiestas temáticas, en las que sus detalles iluminan la casa. Que sepas que a Ale le agradecemos el poder de compartir su paciencia y su fortaleza, como buena capricornio que es.
Detrás de la entereza que vemos todos días, hay una chica relajada que disfruta bailar y caminar en el cerro por las mañanas. Sus indispensables en una isla desierta serían su diario y sus lentes, porque, sin ellos, su graduación 2 y 1.5 complicaría demasiado su estancia. A Ale le encanta el mezcal, aunque, irónicamente su perrito se llama Pulque. Su personalidad real sólo tiene un gusto culposo: ver Crepúsculo una y otra vez porque le da confort.
En su afán de compartir, le fascina hablar de salud menstrual, en especial a infancias. Entonces no es raro que la veamos dar un taller o una presentación al respecto. Por último, te compartiremos el secreto mejor guardado de Ale: es súper fan de los tacos de carnitas.
Marla Argüelles-Community Manager
A Marla la podemos imaginar siempre detrás de algo, ya sea de una computadora, respondiendo tus mensajes o detrás de un libro que seguramente no está disfrutando. Lo que ves en redes sociales o el primer contacto que tienes con Presa 97, es a través de Marla (la mayor parte de las veces). Su trabajo va más allá de la creación y difusión de los eventos del centro cultural porque también lleva el marketing de otros negociosos para Colectiva de la Presa. Su intención no sólo es compartir, sino ver crecer a la gente con la trabaja.
¿Cómo puedes reconocer la presencia de Marla en Presa 97? Sencillo, en donde sea que haya libros: clubes de lectura, escritura y la biblioteca. De hecho, su primer acercamiento a la casa fue a través del club de lectura en inglés. Además, puedes verla organizar eventos con Ale y Laura; al final del día, el centro cultural se mueve gracias al trabajo en equipo.
Lo que hay que saber de Marla es que está obsesionada con su perrita y con los nombres únicos, no por nada su pequeña se llama Chiquiturrina (Piqui para lxs amigxs). Ella encontró la más grande de sus pasiones a los cuatro años, cuando aprendió a leer. Su amor por los idiomas y sus ganas de entender a los Jonas Brothers y a Hannah Montana la llevaron a enseñarse inglés a sí misma. Además, sabe traducir latín antiguo, contar en hebreo y decir malas palabras en maya. Como dato curioso, tiene el súper poder sureño de no temerle a los insectos y detestar el sol (¡arriba el team frío!).
Marla es aficionada a los tatuajes, pero ha sabido contenerse y conformarse con cuatro. No sabemos lo que pensaría su yo de catorce años al saber esto porque en ese entonces, ella sólo soñaba con ser cantante. Marla cree en la numerología y no le gusta la playa (otra característica quintanarroense). Por último, su más grande sueño es dedicarse a la edición de libros. Creemos que lo va a lograr.
El trabajo que hacemos en Presa 97 significa mucho para nosotras porque es una manera de conectar contigo. Agradecemos que nos permitas conocerte y ser parte de tu vida. Nuestro objetivo será siempre que te sientxs cómodx en este espacio, como nos sentimos nosotras. Presa 97 is a feminine force, driven and evolving thanks to four women who work hard every day to offer you a welcoming, diverse, supportive, and loving space. Our main desire is for the experiences of our lives to be reflected in every corner of this cultural center and for you to know, whenever we share moments with you, that you are receiving our essence and a spark of our personalities.
In this blog, we tell you a little about ourselves and the challenges we have faced in this project. Without a doubt, there have been ups and downs, but every day we return home with the satisfaction that we give it our all. We hope you can see it. Come and get to know us!
Laura Glish-Director
The best word to describe Laura is dedication. The passion that drives her is giving back to society the beautiful things it has given her. You can see her essence and work in the various activities we offer. She is always pays attention to details; none of this could function properly without her dedication, her sleepless nights, and the love she has for the house.
Getting to know Laura means knowing that no one reads books as quickly as she does, that she is always ready to make you feel welcome, and that, although she doesn’t like photos, she is behind the camera providing support and words of encouragement for whatever you need. Without a doubt, Presa 97 could not be in better hands than hers.
Valentina Osorio-Coordinator
It is true that Presa 97 is a beautiful house, but its walls come to life thanks to Valentina's talent. She is in charge of curating Galería Vitral, meaning she finds and communicates with local or emerging artists so that their works become part of the house's space. The artistic beauty we present first passes through Valentina's eyes; that's why we see radiant colors, relevant motifs, and meaningful stories.
Behind Galería Vitral is an extremely important initiative led by Valentina: the Vitral Fund, which is fueled by art sales in the gallery, fundraising events, and donations to provide scholarships to children from Paseo de la Presa, allowing them to receive art classes at no cost.
At first glance, the previous paragraphs might define Valentina, especially considering that she did her professional internship at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. But she is much more than that; for example, it is essential to know that her favorite ice cream is chocolate chip mint, she doesn’t have a favorite color (though currently, burgundy is winning), and she has a black cat named Salem.
Valentina, of Mexican and Chilean citizenship, loves receiving flowers, has never had a broken bone, and despite not believing in astrology, she looked up her natal chart on Google while sharing fun facts about herself. One of her favorite pastimes is painting watercolor pieces that she only likes to share with herself. The most interesting thing about her artistic perspective is that she believes she resembles a rabbit. The rest of us think she might be right, but a very cute one.
Ale Gutiérrez-Manager
Ale's presence can be felt in all the events we share with you. Without a doubt, her imagination has allowed us to turn the dreams of our guests, and partly ours as well, into a reality. Every moment, every space, and every aspiration of Presa 97 has Ale's touch, so we've made it a habit to consult her in times of doubt and when we need inspiration. Seeing her constantly coming and going motivates us to always give our best. We hope she knows that her hard work never goes unnoticed and that we appreciate all her dedication.
What makes Ale's work special is her dedication and integrity. Furthermore, no matter how busy she is, she never hesitates to take a moment to listen to you attentively. Her specialty is themed parties, where her details light up the house. Know that we are grateful to Ale for sharing her patience and strength, as a true Capricorn does.
Behind the steadfastness we see every day, there is a relaxed girl who enjoys dancing and walking in the hills in the mornings. Her essentials on a deserted island would be her diary and her glasses because, without them, her vision of 2 and 1.5 would make her stay too complicated. Ale loves mezcal, although, ironically, her dog is named Pulque. Her real personality has only one guilty pleasure: watching Twilight over and over because it comforts her.
In her desire to share, she loves talking about menstrual health, especially with children. So, it’s not uncommon to see her giving a workshop or presentation on the topic. Lastly, we'll share Ale's best-kept secret: she is a huge fan of carnitas tacos.
Marla Argüelles-Community Manager
We can always imagine Marla behind something, whether it’s a computer screen, responding to your messages, or behind a book that she’s probably not enjoying. What you see on social media or your first contact with Presa 97 is through Marla (most of the time). Her work goes beyond creating and promoting events at the cultural center because she also handles marketing for other businesses under Colectiva de la Presa. Her intention is not only to share but also to see the people she works with grow.
Where can you recognize Marla’s presence at Presa 97? Simple, wherever there are books: book clubs, writing clubs, and the library. In fact, her first approach to the house was through the English Book Club. You can also see her organizing events with Ale and Laura; at the end of the day, the cultural center thrives thanks to teamwork.
What you need to know about Marla is that she is obsessed with her little dog and unique names, which is why her little one is called Chiquiturrina (Piqui for friends). She found her greatest passion at the age of four when she learned to read. Her love for languages and her desire to understand the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana led her to teach herself English. Additionally, she knows how to translate ancient Latin, count in Hebrew, and curse in Mayan. Interestingly, she has the southern superpower of not fearing insects and hating the sun (team cold all the way!).
Marla is a tattoo enthusiast, but she has managed to contain herself and is content with only four. We don’t know what her fourteen-year-old self would think of this because back then, she only dreamed of being a singer. Marla believes in numerology and dislikes the beach (another Quintana Roo trait). Finally, her biggest dream is to dedicate herself to book editing. We believe she’s going to achieve it.
The work we do at Presa 97 means a lot to us because it’s a way to connect with you. We are grateful that you allow us to get to know you and be part of your life. Our goal will always be to make you feel comfortable in this space, just as we do. As you’ll notice from this blog, we appreciate individuality and those treats that make us, and you, unique.
