Entrevista con el artista guanajuatense Alonso León Jaime
¿Cómo describirías el estilo de tus obras?
Mis obras giran en torno a un expresionismo y Neo expresionismo, con ciertos rasgos cubistas e impresionistas; del pop art tomo la manera concreta de expresar ideas del día a día intentando siempre no dejar atrás los trazos de los grandes maestros clásicos, siendo esto lo mas complicado en mi aprendizaje artístico. La obra se define por el manejo del color en combinaciones atrevidas y un tanto caprichosas, delimitando los traspasos de color con tonos oscuros. El negro y blanco resultan de gran utilidad para el desarrollo de la obra, logrando exaltar figuras y motivos que definen el final de la pintura. Me caracterizo por el uso de colores vivos, pero siempre definiendo con los más oscuros, para lograr la combinación precisa que yo creo, funciona.
¿Qué te impulsó a empezar a hacer arte?
El impulso sin duda alguna viene de una educación en casa, pues ahí se me inculcó a llevar el arte como algo ciertamente cotidiano y útil en la vida. El gusto en casa surge al interactuar directamente con distintas expresiones de las artes, desarrollando a mayor edad una curiosidad intelectual por estas expresiones. El acercamiento artístico de manera “formal” empezó estudiando en la Escuela de música de la Universidad de Guanajuato, años más tarde la curiosidad me llevó a empezar a ver que era el hacer pintura.
¿Cuál es tu fuente de inspiración cuando quieres crear algo?
Mi inspiración son situaciones, formas y colores de el día a día; pues de una combinación de tonos puede venir el desarrollo de un tema o de ciertas formas puede surgir el atrevimiento del color. Al escoger el elemento principal que detona el inicio de una pintura, lo complemento con un “estudio” en torno a ello. De manera que se va construyendo la obra en mi mente para después resolverla en el lienzo. En si, tema complejo o sencillo ha de llevar cierto proceso para poder lograr algo que, a mi forma de sentir y entender, resulte en una pintura interesante independientemente del fin que esta tenga.
¿Qué significa para ti Guanajuato?
Guanajuato para mi es un lugar sin duda alguna peculiar en todos sus sentidos, con una cierta atmósfera que inclina a una mayor sensibilidad en los sentidos. Es un lugar valorado por miles de personas, pero siento que poco valorado por los propios guanajuatenses, pues no tenemos la noción de donde nos encontramos parados. No generalizo, pero decimos tener una ciudad artística, sin interesarnos a fondo por las artes. Nos emocionamos por tener cierta arquitectura sin ciertamente cuidar las edificaciones de esta ciudad. En fin, pienso que es una ciudad olvidada por los mismos guanajuatenses; si la ciudad no tuviera vida propia, nunca se movería. Pues el esfuerzo de pocos que han logrado su desarrollo en todos los sentidos, se ve opacado por el desinterés de una gran mayoría. Pero sin duda alguna, vivimos en una ciudad única.

¿Cómo ves tu carrera en un futuro?
Prefiero decir como me gustaría ver mi carrera en un futuro. Quiero verme como un artista consolidado y profesional, alguien que pueda interactuar con el medio de forma útil, útil en el mas amplio sentido de la palabra. Espero poder abrir todas las puertas posibles que se me han de presentar, logrando la mayor exposición de mi trabajo a una gran escala. Al igual, espero lograr desarrollarme en todos los ámbitos de interés que me conciernen, no solo en el artístico, pues quiero desenvolverme en distintas practicas profesionales fuera de las artes. Intentando siempre hacer una relación en todas las actividades que logre realizar.
¿Qué consejo le darías a alguien que quiere empezar su carrera en el arte?
Que no comenta el error de jactarse de ser una persona de mente abierta y terminar siendo el mas cerrado por creer tener la ultima palabra en lo que a arte se refiere. A pintar, pintando.

Interview with Guanajuato artist Alonso León Jaime
How would you describe your style?
My works revolve around expressionism and neo expressionism, with certain cubist and impressionist features; from pop art I take the concrete way of expressing ideas of everyday life, always trying not to leave behind the strokes of the great classical masters, this being the most complicated in my artistic learning. The work is defined by the use of color in bold and somewhat whimsical combinations, delimiting the color transfers with dark tones. The black and white are very useful for the development of the work, achieving to exalt figures and motifs that define the end of the painting. I am characterized by the use of bright colors, but always defining with the darker ones, to achieve the precise combination that I believe works.
What prompted you to start making art?
The impulse undoubtedly comes from an education at home, because there I was taught to take art as something certainly everyday and useful in life. The taste at home arises when interacting directly with different expressions of the arts, developing at an older age into an intellectual curiosity for these expressions. The artistic approach in a "formal" way began when I was studying at the School of Music at the University of Guanajuato, years later curiosity led me to begin to see what it was to paint.
What is your source of inspiration when you want to create something?
My inspiration are situations, shapes and colors of everyday life; because from a combination of tones can come the development of a theme or from certain forms can arise the boldness of color. When I choose the main element that triggers the beginning of a painting, I complement it with a "study" around it. So that the work is built in my mind and then resolved on the canvas. In itself, a complex or simple subject has to take a certain process in order to achieve something that, to my way of feeling and understanding, results in an interesting painting regardless of its purpose.
What does Guanajuato mean to you?
Guanajuato for me is undoubtedly a peculiar place in all its senses, with a certain atmosphere that inclines to a greater sensitivity in the senses. It is a place valued by thousands of people, but I feel that it is little valued by the people of Guanajuato themselves, because we have no notion of where we are standing. I do not generalize, but we say we have an artistic city, without being deeply interested in the arts. We get excited for having certain architecture without certainly taking care of the buildings of this city. In short, I think that it is a city forgotten by the people of Guanajuato themselves; if the city did not have its own life, it would never move. The efforts of a few who have achieved its development in all senses, are overshadowed by the disinterest of a great majority. But without a doubt, we live in a unique city.
How do you see your career in the future?
I prefer to say how I would like to see my career in the future. I want to see myself as a consolidated and professional artist, someone who can interact with the environment in a useful way, useful in the broadest sense of the word. I hope to be able to open all the possible doors that will be presented to me, achieving the greatest exposure of my work on a large scale. Likewise, I hope to develop myself in all areas of interest that concern me, not only in the artistic field, because I want to develop myself in different professional practices outside the arts. Always trying to make a relationship in all the activities that I manage to perform.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a career in art?
Not to make the mistake of boasting of being an open-minded person and end up being the most closed-minded for believing to have the last word in what art is all about. To paint, painting.
