Entrevista con Akari Chaires, Artista.
¿Cómo describirías el estilo de tus obras?
Yo me enfoco más al dibujo y la pintura, pero por instalación, tomo temáticas que hablan más del erotismo, de lo psicológico, sobre todo.
¿A qué te refieres con instalación?
La instalación es cuando los materiales que usas son para un espacio, por ejemplo, la pintura utiliza pigmentos sobre un lienzo, el dibujo sobre papel, la escultura sobre el espacio, la instalación puede verse como un tipo de escultura ya que estás interviniendo el espacio, cada pieza que hagas va a ser pensando en donde se va a ubicar.
¿Qué te impulsó a empezar a hacer arte?
Es algo que siempre me ha llamado la atención, desde el kínder es lo que siempre he hecho, al principio yo pensaba en ser tatuadora, mi mamá me dijo “está bien, pero primero estudia”, no había pensado en esta parte de formalizarlo académicamente, ya que descubrí que había más cosas decidí dedicarme a esto y ya después si me late seguir con el tatuaje.
¿Tu carrera es en Artes plásticas?
Yo soy de Hermosillo, Sonora, y allá todavía son “Artes plásticas”, es muy tradicional, y aquí el contraste, cuando yo vine a hacer un intercambio académico y ya me quedé acá, la escuela sí es “Artes Visuales”, son otros medios, tienes toda esa parte tradicional y como aplicarlo en lo contemporáneo.
¿Cómo te inspiras al momento de empezar a crear?
Normalmente pienso en el concepto y de ahí hago una investigación sobre el tema que quiero hablar y busco imágenes de referencia, trabajo mucho sobre bocetos, más que hacerlo intuitivamente, primero hago una investigación y parto de eso para hacer las piezas.
¿Qué significa para ti Guanajuato?
La primera vez que llegué a Guanajuato, en 2010, me gustó mucho físicamente, toda la arquitectura y se me hizo muy mágico todo y decidí regresar en 2013, me doy cuenta de que es una ciudad de “mentiritas”, por que es muy fácil vivir aquí, las rentas son muy económicas comparadas con otros lugares, el clima es perfecto, todo es céntrico, puedes llegar a cualquier lado caminando, el ambiente estudiantil que me tocó en ese momento era muy agradable, es muy lindo, hay muchos eventos culturales, es un lugar cómodo para vivir.
¿Cómo ves tu carrera en un futuro?
Tengo algunos proyectos, espero que en un futuro ya estén funcionando y siendo autónomos, ahorita estamos trabajando en colectivo para hacer una galería, espero que en ese momento esté funcionando y creciendo, espero también tener un espacio cultural propio también y dedicarme a vivir de eso.
¿Qué consejo le darías a alguien que quiere empezar su carrera en el arte?
Estar preparado para todo, si eres una persona con poca disciplina puede que sea muy difícil, tienes que ser súper constante, tienes que entrar de lleno y estar buscando tu espacio, eres el creador, el mánager, diseño, todo lo que tengas que hacer por tu cuenta. También no cerrarte a trabajar en colectivo, aprender, compartir conocimiento.

Interview with Akari Chaires, Artist.
How would you describe the style of your work?
I focus more on drawing and painting, but by installation, I take themes that speak more of eroticism, of the psychological, above all.
What do you mean by installation?
Installation is when the materials you use are for a space, for example, painting uses pigments on a canvas, drawing on paper, sculpture on space, installation can be seen as a type of sculpture since you are intervening the space, each piece you make will be thinking about where it will be located.
What prompted you to start making art?
It is something that has always caught my attention, since kindergarten is what I've always done, at first I thought about being a tattoo artist, my mom told me "okay, but first study", I had not thought about this part of formalizing it academically, since I discovered that there were more things I decided to dedicate myself to this and then if it beats me to continue with the tattoo.
Is your career in Plastic Arts?
I'm from Hermosillo, Sonora, and over there it's still "Plastic Arts", it's very traditional, and here the contrast, when I came to do an academic exchange and I stayed here, the school is "Visual Arts", there are other media, you have all that traditional part and how to apply it to the contemporary.
How do you get inspired when you start creating?
I usually think about the concept and from there I do research on the subject I want to talk about and look for reference images, I work a lot on sketches, more than doing it intuitively, I first do research and start from that to make the pieces.
What does Guanajuato mean to you?
The first time I came to Guanajuato, in 2010, I liked it very much physically, all the architecture and everything became very magical and I decided to return in 2013, I realize that it is a "toy" city, because it is very easy to live here, rents are very cheap compared to other places, the weather is perfect, everything is central, you can get anywhere walking, the student environment of my time was very nice, there are many cultural events, it is a comfortable place to live in.
How do you see your career in the future?
I have some projects, I hope that in the future they will be working and being autonomous, right now we are working collectively to make a gallery, I hope that at that time it will be working and growing, I also hope to have my own cultural space and dedicate myself to make a living from it.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a career in art?
Be prepared for everything, if you are a person with little discipline it can be very difficult, you have to be super constant, you have to enter fully and be looking for your space, you are the creator, the manager, designer, everything you have to do on your own. Also do not close yourself to work collectively, learn, share knowledge.
